Human Resources Manager - GTA

Our client, a large Canadian-owned international manufacturer, employing more than 30,000 employees, has an exciting opportunity in the Greater Toronto Area for an experienced HR Manager. They are looking for someone who supports their shared commitment to having the Best People , someone who values diversity and has a passion for excellence.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President Canada, the HR Manager is responsible for driving, developing, managing, implementing and administering HR programs and solutions for their GTA facility (500 non-unionized employees).

We are looking for someone to:

  • Play a lead role in building a culture that challenges the status quo
  • Contribute to all the functional areas of Human Resources
  • Implement HR initiatives/programs in support of the Best People commitment
  • Form strategic alliances with internal business partners
  • Coach and mentor team members (2 HR Coordinators, 1 H&S Coordinator)
  • Handle complex employee relations issues, and maintain an open-door approach
  • Complete multiple projects concurrently
  • Act as a change-agent in identifying and implementing HR best-practices

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years in a Human Resources Manager role, and a proven HR generalist track-record
  • Post-secondary University education, specializing in Human Resources; CHRP designation an asset
  • Progressive experience in a manufacturing environment is essential
  • Strong health & safety focus, with a demonstrated ability to effect meaningful change in this area
  • Well developed communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills with a high-energy personality, and able to operate effectively and professionally at all levels within the organization.

Key Duties include, but are not limited to:

•  Provide an employee relations consultative service to line management and employees, and ensure consistent interpretation of federal and provincial legislation, and the application of Company policy.
•  With the support of the Health & Safety Coordinator, direct all health & safety initiatives and programs, oversee workers compensation claims, and minimize lost-time injury costs through an effective modified work program.
•  Recruitment and selection of management & professional-level positions
•  Formulate and implement Company policies and procedures, and ensure that existing policies remain current and legally compliant.
•  Responsible for all salary planning and compensation activities incl. job evaluations, job description development and salary re-classifications.
•  Coordinate the divisions' Performance Review process and annual wage and salary adjustments.
•  Work closely with legal counsel to efficiently and cost-effectively resolve claims against the Company, and keep abreast of legislative changes that affect the business.
•  Facilitate employee plant-wide communications and conduct quarterly employee general meetings.
•  Serve as a management member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
•  Establish and control the HR departments' annual operating budget.
