Maintenance/Engineering Manager - Calgary

Our client, a division of an international manufacturer of construction materials, has need for an accomplished Maintenance/Engineering Manager for their Calgary plant. With close to 200 plants across North America, future opportunities are unlimited.

Job Purpose
Consistent with the Strategic Corporate Objectives, provides the leadership to effectively manage all quality, engineering, and maintenance activities concerned with the design, cost estimation, selection/construction, compliance with provincial and federal environmental standards, installation and maintenance of plant physical properties including building, grounds, machinery and equipment, at a plant where the products and processes are generally standardized but are subject to periodic modification.

Accountabilities include:

  • Manage safety standards in area of responsibility as well as provide leadership and direction towards plant wide safety requirements.
  • Responsible for budget preparation, planning and scheduling of all capital and maintenance activities in the plant, as well as the preparation and implementation of all Capital Requests.
  • Directly supervises all exempt Plant Engineering and Maintenance employees, and through them all skilled, semi-skilled and clerical
  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager
  • Has latitude for non-reviewed actions and the exercise of independent judgement and discretion within established policies and procedures. Must obtain prior approval for significant changes to the approved engineering, budget or maintenance plans.
  • Internal contacts involve all plant departments in the coordination and scheduling of plant repairs, equipment modifications or installations; purchasing and accounting personnel on requisitions and Capital Request data; quality testing; and corporate engineering on special projects.
  • External contacts involve vendors and outside contractors to obtain bids for new facilities or equipment; and the governmental agencies and insurance representative on fire prevention, safety inspection, environmental issues, etc.
  • Significant problem solving situations involve scheduling of preventative and predictive maintenance programs and the installation, modification and /or repair of equipment in a manner which will assure employee safety, minimize production downtime and assure product quality.
  • Responsible for coordinating all environmental issues including permits.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Background
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering and/or professional knowledge of plant engineering disciplines, such as automated control systems, programmable logic controllers, safety qualification, quality auditing, and professional industrial maintenance experience in 24 hr per continuous process type environment. Requires proven Leadership skills in Industrial Management plus approximately five to seven years professional experience of which two to three years should be in a supervisory capacity. Have the ability to provide Leadership and innovation at all organizational levels, adaptability, customer and supplier focus, good written and oral communication. Requires basic typing skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Lotus Notes/e-mail and a high degree of computer literacy.
