Manager, Quality - Calgary

Our client, a division of an international manufacturer of construction materials, has need for an accomplished Quality Manager for their Calgary plant. With close to 200 plants across North America , future opportunities are unlimited.

Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Quality Manager (QM) is accountable to ensure that process controls exists within the plant such that manufactured products and raw material supplies meet required specifications. The QCM is also responsible to ensure the plant achieves and maintains ISO 9002 registration, for investigating product complaints and process problems, and for constant cost reduction and quality improvement review. This position involves significant involvement in process variation reduction through the use of statistical means and process automation.

Accountabilities Include:

  • Leadership role in the site World Class Manufacturing program, in alignment with site business plan.
  • Direct the activities of quality assurance personnel.
  • Leadership role in the utilization of Six Sigma, SPC and leaning manufacturing techniques
  • Maintain and improve quality control systems and procedures for all products produced at the plant.
  • Leadership role in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, in cooperation with Production
  • Identify cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze customer complaints and develop recommendations for corrective action, to assist sales staff at on-site complaints, and to conduct seminars.
  • Collaborate with the Production Supervisor on quality and process matters.
  • Provide summary data to Technical Services.
  • Coordinate process development trials with Technical Services and expedite the sharing of information.
  • Evaluate new raw material suppliers.
  • Maintain plant laboratory and associated equipment in safe working order and purchase necessary chemical and technical supplies.
  • Keep informed regarding industry and government standards and specification.
  • Develop and implement capital projects that contribute to the overall position objectives.
  • Assist in implementing process controls to reduce variation throughout the plant
  • Utilize statistical techniques to diagnose process variation.
  • Guide plant employees in continuous improvement of quality and process control performance.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Background:
A Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent combined with background in quality systems, SPC (statistical process control, 6-Sigma coupled with 5 years of experience in a continuous, TPM focused, manufacturing environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Access database development would be a benefit. The applicant must have good communication skills, solid analytical/problem solving skills, and be comfortable working in a team environment.
